
Dharamshala: The Traditional Academic Section of Department of Education organised a workshop on the Tibetan language for teachers from various Sambhota Tibetan schools who teach subjects other than Tibetan to improve their Tibetan Language. The workshop was held from 11 June at College for Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarah and was concluded on 25 June.
The event was attended by the Secretary Karma Singey of Department of Education, Head of Academic section Tenzin Dorjee, Principal of Sarah College Passang Tsering and staff.
In his introductory remarks, Head of Academic section of DoE Tenzin Dorjee gave a brief introduction and overview of the seminar. He stated that the aim of the workshop is to improve the level of Tibetan Language of the teachers teaching subjects other than Tibetan at schools. He commended the teachers taking part in the workshop for voluntarily signing up for the seminar. He further stated that since all the syllabus of the primary schools is going to be in Tibetan in the future so he expressed the importance for the teachers to have a good standard of Tibetan language to be able to teach the students in Tibetan. He urged the teachers to practice whatever they have learned when they go back to their respective schools.
The event was proceeded by the participants sharing their experiences and learnings from the workshop followed by felicitation of the trainers by the chief guest Secretary Karma Singey and distribution of the certificates to the participants.
Sharing his observation on the workshop, the Principal of Sarah College Passang Tsering mentioned that the workshop is one of the most effective workshops held at Sarah so far. He lauded the punctuality and the spirit of learning that the teachers have shown during 15 days of the workshop.
Education Secretary Karma Singey highlighted the significance of the collective roles of parents, teachers and the school administration in improving the quality of education for the students. He notified that the Department of Education has been providing many different workshops and also facilitating various school.
He spoke on the importance of the Tibetan language and the critical stage that the Tibetan Language is at this point of time. He informed the teachers to pay greater attention to the Tibetan Language as they are responsible for the sustainability of Tibetan Language in the future. He further expressed the importance of both traditional and modern education. He advised the teachers to inculcate good moral values and not just good teaching methods. He requested the teachers to be a quintessential role model for the students.
The staff of traditional academic section of DoE Tenzin Palkyi concluded the workshop with a vote of thanks.
