Dharamshala: Department of Education, CTA Dharamsala has felt the need to review the existing English curriculum for classes 4 to 8 and develop and design a revised English curriculum for all Tibetan schools. Accordingly, a series of meeting was convened by the Education Council of DoE under the guidance of Education Kalon Dr. Pema Yangchen. Subsequently, an English Curriculum Development Committee(ECD) was formed with Mr. Tenzing Chimey Nuba, Retd. Public School English Teacher, USA as the chair person, Mr. Tenzin Dhargyal, TCV TPD Officer and Ms. Tenzin Choedon, STSS English Mentor as members, and Mr. Tsering Dhondup, OSD,DoE as the committee secretary.
The ECD committee led by the Education Kalon is visiting a part of northern schools including Suja, Chauntra, Dharamsala and Dehradun from 5 to 22nd November 2019 to observe English classes, interact with students, teachers and administrators as part of their field research. Informed by the research analysis, the existing curriculum and other factors, the committee will produce a draft of English Curriculum Framework for Tibetan schools from class 4 to 8. The draft of the English Curriculum Framework will be further revised and discussed after collecting feedback from other stake holders. Eventually, the final approved English Curriculum Framework will be implemented in Tibetan schools.
The ECD committee has began its school visits from TCV Suja on 5 November, 2019. This will be followed by TCV Chauntra, STS Chauntra, Upper TCV, TCV Day School McLeod, Mewoen Tsuglag Petoen School, and Lower TCV during the subsequent weeks. Starting from 18 November the Committee will visit THS Mussoorie, THS Rajpur, STS Paonta, and STS Puruwala.
