Bylakuppe: At the onset of the Wuhan originated pandemic COVID-19 in India, the Dickey Larsoe settlement office equipped its office staff and 16 village leaders under its jurisdictions with N95 masks, face shields and hand sanitizers as a precautionary measure in the early April. Subsequently, as the Pandemic kept on growing, each resident of the settlement was distributed face mask and hand sanitizer accordingly to prevent oneself against this deadly disease.
After the easing of travel restrictions by the Govt. of India in the month of May, Settlement office started Community quarantine center facility so that the stranded residents of the settlement can return to their home by completing mandatory quarantine period as per the standard operating procedure of the State Government and Central Tibetan Administration. Interstate and inter-district returnees were provided free accommodation, food and swab testing at the quarantine center facility besides providing face mask and hand sanitizer upon their arrival. Till date, more than 130 people have availed this facility. The quarantine center is funded by the Department of Health (CTA).
Under the directions from the Health Department (CTA), the 60 years and older elderlies in the settlement and the people in the quarantine center are provided free Tibetan herbal immune-boosting pills from the settlement office through Men-tsee-khang branch clinic.
To curb the spread of the deadly pandemic, weekly disinfection is carried out in the settlement’s 16 villages and monasteries by the respective village leaders and the monastery administrators.
Settlement office not only holds meeting with its village heads and monastery administrators related to prevention of Covid-19 but also liaise with the Taluk and local health authorities from time to time.
Posters relating to COVID-19 awareness has also been installed at the village’s entrance to create mass awareness amongst the general public in taking precautionary measures against this deadly disease.
Till date, Dickey Larsoe has witnessed zero COVID-19 positive case in the settlement and its jurisdiction monasteries.
