Washington D.C.: On 22 November 2025, the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration conducted the second online training session for North American Tibetan weekend school teachers on methods to enhance Tibetan language instruction. There are 36 Tibetan Associations in North America, 24 of which run weekend schools. The training session on 22 November was attended by 25 teachers from primary and middle levels across various regions of the United States, including Southern California, Washington Seattle, Northern California, Portland, Vancouver BC, Colorado, and Minnesota.
The main training was delivered by Mingchung, the General Secretary of Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School, who has extensive teaching experience. After brief introductory remarks by the Department of Education’s Textbook Section Head, Gedun Dhonyoe, and the Tibetan Liaison Officer, Kunga Tashi, from the Office of Tibet in Washington D.C., former Senior Tibetan Teachers’ Mentor at the TCV Mingchung provided detailed guidance on teaching methods, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, and lesson planning for primary and middle-level students. Teachers’ questions were addressed, and further clarifications were provided during and after the session..
Some teachers who attended both the first and second sessions informed the Tibetan Liaison Officer that both Pasang Tsering and Mingchung have distinctive strengths that are highly beneficial for future teaching and offer fresh inspiration. If time permits, they expressed interest in attending the third session.
Before concluding, the Department of Education’s Textbook Section Head, Gedun Dhonyoe, provided a summary of the core content and significance of the curriculum framework for Tibetan language and culture schools from primary to middle levels. The next weekend, a similar training will be held for teachers in the eastern regions of the United States.
