Dehradun: Settlement officer Mr. Tsultrim Dorjee of Herbertpur and Mr. Jigmey Tsultrim, Coordinator, ITCO, paid a courtesy call on Dr. M.K Otani, Expert Advisor to the Government of India, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, at the latter’s camp office at Tons Colony, Dakpathar, Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
The three had an hour-long discussion on how to strengthen Indo-Tibet relations.
SO Tsultrim Dorjee greeted Dr. M. K. Otani with a Tibetan traditional scarf and expressed his gratitude for being supportive and sympathetic of the Tibetan community particularly Tibetans in and around Herbertpur. Mr. Tsutlrim also shared his experience as a Tibetan civil servant, having served in various capacities in offices across India over the last more than three decades.
Coordinator for ITCO, Mr Jigmey Tsultrim explained Dr Otani the inception of ITCO, its achievement during the years and challenges ahead. He insisted upon drawing mutual programs that would enable both the communities to understand the course of Tibetan movements in India and elsewhere.
Dr. Otani also emphasised the need for more awareness of the existence and relevance of Indian Buddhist people amongst Tibetan communities especially Tibetan youth and Buddhist centers in India.
He expressed his deep reverence towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama for being the torchbearer of the Nalanda tradition of Buddhist studies that stem from India and has now spread over various parts of the world. He shared about his experience of the relevance of Buddhist wisdom which he affirmed is a key to every social phenomenon to aspire ultimate peace and harmony.
Furthermore, Dr. Otani stressed the need to not only preserve the values of Buddhist teachings but also safeguard the aspirations of Tibetans in exile – its identity.
