Dharamshala: Tibetan Career Centre (TCC), a unit of Youth Empowerment Support, DoH, organized two weeks of workshop on “Career Awareness” at different Tibetan Settlements and educational institution based in south India. Head Consultant Ms. Tenzin Choezin and Counselor cum placement officer Ms. Jigme Lhamo conducted the program from 14 April until the end of April 2018.
The target group for the program was Tibetan youth, parents and schools around Tibetan Settlements. The primary objectives of the program are:
To create awareness about the importance of parental counseling in children’s life and career guidance to schoolchildren.
To create awareness about the opportunities of skills trainings in Tibetan community and the scopes of vocational trainings in the job market.
To conduct workshop on employability skills like resume building, interview skills, communication.
The awareness program covered 431 beneficiaries including 72 school children based in Odisha Tibetan settlement, Hunsur Rabgyeling, Lugsam Bylakuppe, Dickyi Larsoe Bylakuppe, Golathala Bylakuppe, Chawkur Bylakuppe, Kollegal Dhondenling Tibetan settlement, Institute for small trade learning (ISTL) Neelamangala based in Bangalore and the CST Kollegal,
The workshop was a great success as the participants showed great interest and took active participation in the program. Participants voiced similar request calling for more of such workshops in their settlements in the coming years.
They also conducted individual counseling, parental counselling and group counseling on topics such how to build a career in four simple steps, i.e. a) Knowing yourself b) Exploring possibilities c) Making a choice and d) Making it happen.
