ITCO, 19th December 2016, New Delhi – A long time Tibet supporter, Shri Sandesh Meshram, embarked on a 1200-km cycle rally from Nagpur on 10 December 2016, on the occasion of the 27th Anniversary of Conferment of Nobel Peace Prize on His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The cycle rally titled ‘Cycle Rally to Save Tibet’ was aimed to highlight the critical situation inside Tibet and to bring awareness about the self immolation protests inside Tibet.
During the rally, he will be covering 4 important and most populous Indian States of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar encompassing 9 cities along the path. The rally started from 10 December 2016 from Nagpur in Maharashtra and will conclude at Bodhgaya in Bihar on 28 December 2016.
Last year, from 10 December 2014 – 23 January 2015, he cycled through 5 Southern States of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Kerala covering a distance of 3090 kms and took him two months to complete.
He actively participated in the 2nd Tibetan Peace March organised by Central Executive Committee of 8 Tibetan NGOs from December 1996-February 1997 from Wardha in Maharashtra to Delhi. He was the lone Tibet supporter to take part in Tibetan Youth Congress organised peace march from Dharamshala to Delhi in February 2014 and also participated in Cycle Rally for Panchen Lama from 17-23rd May 2016. https://www.tibetsun.com/news/2014/02/08/month-long-tyc-tibetan-uprising-march-begins
Shri Sandesh Meshram is also known as Samten Yeshi to his Tibetan friends and he is based in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
He is presently the Regional Convener of Core group for Tibetan Cause-India and also serves as the General Secretary of India Tibet Friendship Society (ITFS) Nagpur for the last 40 years.
