Denmark: At the invitation from the Community for International Cooperation in Education and Development (CICED), Denmark, a three-member team led by Mr. Karma Singey, Education Secretary, CTA visited Copenhagen from 5 – 10 May 2019. He was accompanied by Mr. Tenzin Dorjee, Head of Academic Section DoE and Mr. Namgyal Yemphel, Director, Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society,
Dharamsala.
The purpose of their visit is to discuss and plan the fourth phase of the project: “Danish Support to Education for Tibetans in Exile” and other issues concerning the provision of quality education in Tibetan schools across India. The three phases of the project have been successfully implemented by the Department of Education, CTA from 2006 to 2018.
The members were received by Mr. Leo HindskøvKnudsen, Chairman of CICED. Their study tour began with a visit to Fredensbørg School and Sophienbørg School in Hillerød on 6 May. They met and discussed with the Headmasters and Deputy Headmasters of the schools regarding school leadership and the Danish Public School System.
On the second day, they visited C4 Knowledge Center and met with John Langford, Senior Consultant, and Mette K. Faurholdt, City Co-ordinator. The DoE team was introduced to the importance of networking and community partnership in building a strong and thriving society.
The highlight of their tour was the meeting with the representatives from a Danish Ministry on 7th May. They had a very fruitful discussion about the Danish support to the programs and activities being implemented in Tibetan schools across India. The DoE Secretary thanked the Government of Denmark for their unwavering support towards the education of the Tibetans in exile.
Later, they visited Vadgård School, Søborg which caters to the needs of the refugee and immigrant children. They specifically discussed the organic approach towards the integration of the bilingual students in the Danish school system. In the evening, an informal meeting was held with the members of the Tibet Support Committee over a dinner.
On 8 May, they visited a Kindergarten school in Hillerød called Gadevang Asyl. Mrs. Birgitte Nielsen took them for a tour of the school and explained the early childhood care in detail. After that, they went to Hillerød Town Hall and met with Mrs. Kirsten Jensen, Mayor of Hillerød Municipality and Ms. Hanne Frederiksen, Head of Education Section. The officials shared the details about the Danish Education System in the municipality context.
Later in the afternoon, the DoE team visited the Vocational Education Centre of Hillerød.
On 9 May, the DoE team visited University College in Copenhagen and discussed Early Childhood Education in Denmark. Later in the day, the DoE team discussed with Mr. Leo Hindskøv Knudsen and Mr. Johnny Baltzersen, Vice Chairman of CICED about the implementation of the fourth phase of the project and future collaboration with CICED.
After their study tour in Copenhagen, Denmark, Mr. Karma Singey accompanied by Mr. Tenzin Dorjee will fly to Zurich, Switzerland on 10 May. They will visit the Weekend Tibetan Language and Culture Schools in Berne and Aargau from 11 – 12 May. They will meet with the parents and the representatives from the schools. They will fly back to India on 15 May and will reach Dharamsala on16 May.
