Seminar on Tibet Held in Kullu
New Delhi 6 May 2005: A seminar on Tibet was held at Shobla Hotel in Kullu. Organised by Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society, Kullu, the seminar was attended by over 100 people among whom were Indian Buddhists and Chairman of the local Tibetan assembly, presidents of the regional Tibetan youth congress and regional Tibetan women’s association and students of Central School for Tibetans, Bhuntar.
The seminar commenced with the lighting of lamp before the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This was followed by national anthems of India and Tibet. Shri Shiv Chand Thakur, the president of the ITFS, Kullu, welcomed the participants and formally introduced the Chief Guest Colonel Prem Chand, a mountaineer who is popularly known as Tiger of the Himalayaand has won many awards and laurels.
Col. Prem Chand said, “I will never consider Tibetan people being different from me. Their problems are our problems, we the people of Lahaul & Spiti should come first in support of the Tibetans. Tibetans and all other people of Himalaya are considered underdeveloped, but we are developed spiritually and morally. We thank our Tibetan brothers and sisters for keeping our religion alive”.
ITFS President spoke on the historical background of Tibet, its relation with India and China’s security implications for India.
Mr. Karma Sengye, Tibetan Welfare Officer, Kullu, while appreciating the seminar requested ITFS to organise more such seminars in the region as there are many Indian Buddhists in the region.
Mr. Tenzin Dawa, assistant coordinator of India Tibet Coordination Office, thanked all the participants. He spoke at length on the present condition of Tibetans inside Tibet.
