ATPD Lauds Hunger Strikers
Dharamsala, 22 April: The Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies has sent a message to the three Tibetans who have been on strike without food in front of the UN building since 2 April.
Mr. Pema Jungney, the Chairman of the assembly, conveyed the assembly’s appreciation to the three hunger strikers for their selfless act.
“We express our sincere solidarity to the TYC hunger strikers who have pledged to sacrifice their lives”, a statement issued here yesterday said.
Lauding the determination of the three Tibetans, Mr. Jungney said the strike will not only help bring the issue of Tibet before the UN and the world community but also highlight today’s deteriorating situation inside Tibet.
The assembly also urged the UN to ensure that the efforts of the three hunger strikers do not go to waste.
The three hunger strikers sat without food in front of the UN building and today is the 21st day of the strike. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the exile administration, earlier in an interview, had said that his administration would request the TYC to call off the strike.
