Tibetan refugees hands over home built for Gujurat earthquake victims
7 January, 2002: Kalon Tripa’s messaage to the people of Gujrat on the occassion of the handing over of 40 houses duly constructed by the Tibetans
5th January, Disalpat Panchayat, Bachau, Gujrat
It gives me immense pleasure today to hand-over 40 homes to the people of
Disalpat Panchayat who have been effected by the earth quake last year.
The Tibetans in Diaspora were greatly shocked and saddened when the great
disaster befallen on the State of Gujrat. For centuries India and Tibet
shared a close cultural and spiritual bond.
For the last more than forty years India had provided shelter and succor
to nearly a lakh of Tibetans. As an expression of our gratitude to this
great Nation we have undertaken to adopt and rebuild this village with our
limited resource and manpower.
While I, on behalf of the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetans
in Diaspora, hand-over our humble contribution, I pray for all the victims
of the last years disaster and reconfirm our solidarity with you.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche
Kalon Tripa
(Chairman, Cabinet)
