France: On 10 March, 2026 the Tibetan Community in France, together with several Tibetan associations including Students for a Free Tibet France (SFT France), Regional Tibetan Youth Congress France (RTYC France), the Dotoe Chugshigangdruk Association, U-Tsang Tibetan Association, and Domey Tibetan Association, commemorated the 67th anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan National Uprising.
The event began at Place de la République and concluded at Place de la Bastille in Paris.
The chief guests included François Bechieau, Adjoint Mayor of Paris 19; Geneviève Garrigos, Councillor of the City of Paris; representatives from Tibet support groups; Thupten Gyatso, Member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile for Europe; and Thupten Tsering, Coordinator of the Bureau du Tibet and President of the Tibetan NGO Council in Paris.
The programme began with the Tibetan and French national anthems, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of the Tibetan martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of Tibet.
Pema Rinchen, President of the Tibetan Community in France, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of commemorating the anniversary. The chief guests then expressed their continued support for the just cause of Tibet.
Thupten Gyatso spoke on the significance of the day and delivered the official statement of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile. This was followed by an address from Thupten Tsering, who read the official statement of the Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Following the speeches, participants began a peaceful march from Place de la République to Place de la Bastille, walking in two lines for about an hour. During the march, youth volunteers distributed flyers and press releases to local residents along the route.
Upon reaching Place de la Bastille, the concluding programme took place, during which the presidents of various Tibetan associations delivered remarks.
The event concluded with prayers for world peace and in remembrance of the Tibetan martyrs.
Several media representatives, including freelance journalists and reporters from France Info, attended the event to cover the commemoration.
The programme concluded successfully with the participation of around 1,200 people.
Apart from Paris, Tibetan communities in Strasbourg, Toulouse, and Clermont‑Ferrand, along with other parts of France, also commemorated the 67th anniversary at their respective locations in a well-organised manner. Reports from these events will be shared separately in the coming days.
