Puruwala, Himachal Pradesh: From 10 to 12 December, coinciding with Nobel Peace Prize Day and in honour of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birth year, a clothes donation initiative was organised by members of the Local Ghoton Organising Committee of the Puruwala Tibetan Settlement. The drive aimed to support needy families and provide warmth during the winter season as part of the Year of Compassion initiatives.
Two categories of clothing were collected: Ludhiana woollen products, including jackets and sweaters for men and women, as well as coats for children; and gently used clothes that were no longer needed but remained in good condition. The response from the community was overwhelming, with generous contributions from households across Puruwala.
The distribution was carried out with care to ensure maximum benefit. New clothes were distributed to local families in need, as well as to newly arrived young monks at Sakya Magon Thubten Namgyaling, helping them face the harsh winter with dignity and comfort.
Meanwhile, the used clothing was delivered to impoverished families living in tents in Paonta and Dakpathar, where resources are extremely limited. The initiative not only addressed immediate winter needs but also reinforced the spirit of compassion and community service, making the occasion meaningful and aligned with the values of empathy and care.
