Ladakh: On 17 October 2025, the Sonamling Tibetan Settlement Ghoton Committee, with the presence of CRO Tashi Dhondup and Local Justice Commissioner Pema Sangpo, observed the ‘Year of Compassion’ celebration as part of the year-long programme initiated by the Central Tibetan Administration to honour His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s lifelong commitment to the cause of Tibet.
The Ladakh Sonamling Ghoton Committee expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff, doctors, and all employees of Sonam Norboo Memorial (SNM) Hospital. The settlement organised the event at SNM Hospital to honour the hospital staff for their dedicated service to the people of Ladakh. The occasion was graced by Dr Tashi Thinles, Director of Health Services; Dr Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer; and Dr Rinchen Chosdol, Medical Superintendent, along with all the doctors, nurses, and staff of SNM Hospital.
Additionally, the committee introduced the four principal commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration’s year long “Year of Compassion” celebration to commemorate His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s 90th birth anniversary. The settlement chose to begin the Ghoton Celebration by organising the event at SNM Hospital, where compassion is not only taught but lived daily through the selfless service of its medical professionals.
This occasion also marks the 18th Anniversary of the U.S. Congressional Gold Medal being conferred upon His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, a historic recognition of his unwavering commitment to peace, non-violence, and universal compassion. In the evening, a banquet was arranged for 35 staff members including doctors, nurses and staff who were invited as guests.
