
Brussels, 9 April 2025: Representative Rigzin Genkhang and EU Advocacy Officer Tenzin Phuntsok of the Office of Tibet Brussels met with Members of the European Parliament this week to draw urgent attention to the worsening situation inside Tibet and to call for greater European support in advocating for the rights and freedoms of the Tibetan people.
The Tibetan delegation used the opportunity to highlight a wide range of urgent issues related to Tibet, including the sudden death of prominent Tibetan religious leader Tulku Hungkar Dorje in Chinese custody in Vietnam and shared copies of the press release issued by the Central Tibetan Administration calling on the international community to condemn and demand accountability from Chinese and Vietnamese authorities surrounding this case.
In the meetings, Representative Rigzin Genkhang stressed the importance of strengthening international support as China tightens its grip on Tibet and urged the MEPs to take concrete action in support of Tibet using all available tools.
The MEPs expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation and reaffirmed their commitment to raising Tibet in parliamentary debates, diplomatic engagements and all avenues
Representative Rigzin Genkhang thanked the European Parliament for its continued solidarity to the peaceful freedom struggle of the Tibetan people and reiterated the firm commitment of the Central Tibetan Administration to resolve the Sino-Tibet conflict through Middle Way Approach conceived by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
