São Paulo, Brazil: On 12 August, São Paulo was graced by the arrival of five monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery in South India, marking the start of their “Mystical Arts of Tibet” tour across Latin America. Their journey began in the serene settings of Curitiba and Quatro Barras, Paraná, where they were warmly received at CEBB Sukhavati by Lama Padma Samten.
Representative Jigme Tsering of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Latin America is leading this tour as Tibet House Brazil is dedicated to preserving and promoting Tibet’s unique spiritual and cultural.
The highlight of their visit was the creation of an “Amitabha Buddha” sand mandala, a three-day event that began on 16 August. During the opening ceremony, Geshe Ngawang Phende shared the profound spiritual significance of the mandala, emphasising its symbolism of compassion and the impermanence of life. The audience was invited to contribute, symbolising collective efforts toward peace. The monks also performed Sacred Music and Chants, filling the atmosphere with deep meditation and reflection.
The monks’ visit culminated in an evening performance at the Grande Oriente do Paraná, captivating 350 attendees with powerful chanting and ancient Tibetan music. Their final event in Curitiba, held at the Capela Santa Maria, was attended by notable figures, including members of the Indian community and Buddhist groups. The same evening, the monks offered special prayers for the soul of the city mayor’s wife, who had passed away, adding a solemn touch to the event.
As the monks prepare to travel to other parts of Brazil, including São Paulo City, Birigui, and Cabreúva, their tour continues to promote Tibetan culture and foster a deeper connection between cultures. Their words and actions serve as a powerful reminder of the enduring spirit of the Tibetan people and their message of compassion and peace.
