Washington DC: The Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEEL) learning workshop tailored for Tibetan youths in North America concluded on 4 August 2024.
The workshop was conducted through a collaborative effort between the Office of Tibet, North America, Emory University, and the Tibetan Association of New York and New Jersey. It was hosted at the Tibetan Community Centre Hall of NY & NJ from 2 August to 4 August 2024.
The primary objectives of the workshop encompassed the transmission of traditional values and the cultivation of compassion among Tibetan youths, all conducted within the context of SEE learning.
During a three-day workshop, Professor Lobsang Tenzin Negi from Emory University, along with Tsondue Samphel, the Assistant Director for the SEE Learning Program, scientist Tenzin Sonam, and Tenzin Youdon from Connecticut, who serves as the program facilitator for the youths, jointly led the workshop as the four expert facilitators.
On the 2 August, North American scholar Namgyal Choedup and Professor Lobsang Tenzin Negi, President of the NY&NJ Tibetan Community at Emory University, delivered the opening speeches and greetings, elucidating the significance of the SEEL turn by turn, and subsequently officiated the workshop’s commencement. A total of 70 students from 9 different locations across the United States and Canada registered in the workshop. Due to distance and time constraints, several students could not attend the three-day workshop in person. However, the workshop was live-streamed on the Facebook pages of OoT, North America and the NY & NJ Tibetan Community, allowing remote participation for all interested individuals, including the students who couldn’t be there in person.
Apart from that, the Office of Tibet appreciated all the supporters, including the NY & NJ Tibetan Community, for providing the venue for the workshop. They additionally conveyed their appreciation to the Tibet Fund for their generous fund support towards the success of the workshop.
The culminating day of the workshop was overseen by the Washington’s Tibetan Liaison Officer Kunga Tashi. Subsequently, Representative Dr. Namgyal Choedup from the Office of Tibet-Washington DC and Professor Lobsang Tenzin Negi from Emory University delivered concluding speeches.
Following this, the OoT, North America representative presented white scarves as a gesture of gratitude to the four workshop facilitators and all other supporters. Subsequently, Certificates were conferred upon the workshop participants from Emory University, signifying the conclusion of the workshop.
