The Shimla Settlement showcases cultural performances by school students and community members to celebrate the ceremony on 17 July 2024
Shimla: The Tibetan residents of Shimla gathered to commemorate and express gratitude to United States President Joe Biden for signing the Resolve Tibet Act on 17 July 2024. The event began with the Tibetan National Anthem, followed by a moment of silence in honour of the patriots.
Tsewang Phuntsok, Chief Representative Officer of Shimla, delivered an opening speech underscoring the occasion’s significance.
He stated, “Since Tibet has been under the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, the Tibetan people have expressed their gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, our spiritual leader and protector, as well as to the brave individuals who have sacrificed themselves, and to all leaders, both official and unofficial, and the Tibetan people from all walks of life. Through their collective efforts, President Joe Biden of the United States officially signed the Act to Resolve the sino-Tibet conflicts on 12 July.”
The ceremony was held at the Shimla Sambhota Boarding School hall and attended by Shimla’s residents. Tenzin, Chairman of the local Tibetan Assembly, also addressed the gathering, emphasising the significance of the Resolve Tibet Act.
The event included cultural performances by students and community members, showcasing Tibetan heritage. Tenzin Palden, Secretary of Shimla, concluded with a vote of thanks. Following the ceremony, local residents organised a Tibetan circle dance performance as a symbol of community unity and celebration.
