Dharamshala: The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) inaugurated the Second Cultural Immersion Course with an opening orientation. The event was graced by the presence of Honourable Sikyong Penpa Tsering and Joint Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture, Tenzin Dolkar, on 1 July 2024.
The Director of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, Dhondup Tsering, warmly welcomed all the participants and their parents, who had traveled from the United States of America and Europe. In his address, he expressed his gratitude for their dedication and enthusiasm in joining the program and the participants comprised 14 boys and 14 girls, totalling 28.
This summer course provided by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts holds particular significance as it introduces the participants with vibrant world of Tibetan music, dance, songs, and operas, which are essential elements of the Tibetan cultural heritage.
The Cultural Immersion Summer Course is made possible through the support of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and USAID. The Director expressed his gratitude to the parents of the participants for their dedication and efforts in preserving the Tibetan cultural heritage. The Sikyong addressed the participants, emphasising that they should not only learn the vibrant songs and dances of Tibet, but also serve as examples and role models, when they return to their homes.
Sikyong further encouraged the participants to not only learn to play instruments, sing songs, and perform dances, but also to understand the historical significance behind these cultural artistic expressions.
Additionally, the participants will tour the CTA to learn firsthand about the functioning of CTA’s various departments, the official political goal, the challenging conditions in Tibet, and its status as a nation. This comprehensive experience aims to deepen their appreciation and knowledge of Tibetan culture and the current socio-political scenario. The event concluded with a Q&A session with Sikyong.
