Kollegal: The local Tibetan Justice Commissioner of the southern region, Phuntsok Palden, held a legal awareness campaign at Kollegal Sambhota Tibetan School’s auditorium for school staff and around 70 students from class VI to IX on 20 June 2024.
Similarly, on 23 June, a same legal awareness campaign was conducted for around 200 residents of Kollegal Tibetan Settlement, including President and Vice President of the Local Tibetan Assembly, Representative of local Tibetan Cooperative Society and other civil societies.
The local Justice Commissioner apprised the participants about the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile and the powers and responsibilities of the three pillars of the Central Tibetan Administration. They were also elucidated on the Tibetan Justice Commission’s code of judiciary and its organisation and jurisdiction. Furthermore, informed the public about the Code of Civil Procedure’s principal law and provided a detailed guideline on the different types of evidence, admissibility of evidence, the veracity of witnesses, examination of witnesses and the standard of proof.
Later in the evening of the same day, another session was organised at the Mysore-based Roopa hotel for Tibetan college students. 100 pamphlets were distributed and a Q&A session was held before wrapping up the awareness campaign.
