Dr. Gyalo, Lobsang Gyatso Sither and Dorjee Phuntsok with Representative Karma Singey and Chinese Liaison Officer Dawa Sangmo at OoT Canberra.
Canberra: Dr. Gyalo, a leading expert on the Chinese government’s assimilation and education policies in Tibet, visited Office of Tibet, Canberra earlier today on 2 July 2024. He was accompanied by Tibetan Parliamentarian Lobsang Gyatso Sither and his colleague Dorjee Phuntsok from the Digital Security of Tibet Action Institute. Representative Karma Singey warmly welcomed them and gave a brief introduction of the Tibet office’s undertaking and exchanged ideas on issues of mutual interests and concern.
During his weeklong visit, Dr. Gyalo will be meeting several senior politicians, policymakers and members of Parliamentary Friends of Tibet to apprise them on how the colonial boarding school system in Tibet is a core element of the Chinese Communist Party’s systematic effort to co-opt, undermine, and ultimately eliminate Tibetan identity in an attempt to neutralise Tibetan resistance to Chinese rule.
Dr. Gyalo will also share his insights on the system of Chinese colonial-style boarding schools in Tibet at a public talk organised by Australia Tibet Council and Amnesty International Australia at Sydney and will attend a seminar hosted by Tibet Information Office with Chinese experts and scholars on the topic “Sino-Tibet Relations in the Post Xi Jinping Era’.
The visit is facilitated by the Australia Tibet Council in coordination with the Tibet Action Institute.
