Dharamshala: The Department of Education’s Terminology Desk (CTA) held an online meeting on 1 July 2024.
The meeting was attended by the terminology desk committee board members from the ten different Tibetan schools: Tibetan Children Village Upper, Bylakuppe, Selakui, Mussoorie Tibetan Homes School, Central School for Tibetan Mussoorie, Sambhota Tibetan School Bylakuppe, Mundgod, Chauntra, Dholanji and Darjeeling. The terminology desk delivered a comprehensive program introduction, highlighting the importance of standardising terms and promoting their widespread adoption to ensure consistency and clarity across all relevant applications.
Members from the Department of Education’s Terminology Desk; Tsering Dhondup and Tenzin Rabgyal, conducted a series of presentations. They provided an overview of the meeting’s objectives, presented project reports and procedures, and elaborated on the formation and functions of school terminology board committees. Following these presentations, a robust discussion ensued, during which attendees exchanged ideas on the broader dissemination of standardised terms and their practical application within educational settings.
The Department of Education’s Terminology Desk requested that the Tibetan schools mentioned above establish student-led terminology committees. The Denmark-based DANIDA Foundation has donated Rs. 4,000 to each school to encourage and support these committees.
