Farewell of outgoing members and welcoming of newly elected members.
Goa: Tibetan Market Association at Calangute and Baga, Goa witnessed handing and taking-over of charge between its outgoing and incoming members in the presence of the Chief Representative Officer of South Zone, Central Tibetan Administration, on 24 December 2023.
A ceremony was held to bid farewell to outgoing members headed by Kelsang Choedon and to welcome the newly elected members headed by Tashi Rapten Bhotia, Sonam Wangmo, Jingme Bhotia representing Calangute and Nima Chering, Kanga Bhotia, Tenzin Jinpa representing Baga. Chief Representative Officer (CRO) Jigmey Tsutrim appreciated the contributions of the past members and implored new members to strengthen the spirit of coexistence and communal harmony while keeping in mind the aspirations of Tibetans in exile.
Facing the Evacuation Notice from the Private Property Owner of Baga Tibetan Market Association by the year 2025, the office of CRO has been requested by the members to approach the concerned Departments of the State Government of Goa in parallel with instruction from the FFR Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to facilitate and support with special consideration in this regard.
The office of CRO, South India, has been pursuing this matter keeping the given norms and provisions of the State Government of Goa. Chief Representative Officer assured the members, as instruction and permission received from the Department of Home (CTA), the office shall explore every means to find an amicable solution in this regard.
The Tibetan Market Association Calangute, Goa came into existence around the 1980s and has presently 49 members. Initially, Calangute Tibetan Market Association, Goa, represented by Tibetan Refugees, has over the years blended with not only Tibetan Refugees but also members from Himalayan Buddhist Communities as well as fellow non-Buddhists. Then a decade later, in the year 2000, Tibetan Market Association, Baga, Goa also came into existence which has now more than 37 household members.
