Taipei: Representative Kelsang Gyaltsen Bawa of Office of Tibet, Taiwan, accompanied by the Secretary, Buddhist Philosophy Teacher and staff, visited Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation in Taipei and attended a conference organised by its founder Taiwanese Buddhist Nun Cheng Yen, who is a teacher and a philanthropist.
During the hour-long interaction between the two, the Tibetan delegation was introduced to the initiatives taken by the organisation in the promotion of inner values worldwide.
Representative Bawa presented a publication on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and his legacies and another book published by the office on its 20th anniversary. Professor Cheng fondly recalled her first meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama during the latter’s visit to Taipei in 2001. After enquiring about His Holiness’ health, she conveyed her good wishes to His Holiness.
The foundation’s deputy director apprised the Tibetan delegation of the organisation’s support to the Tibetan exile community in India and Nepal and further briefed them about their future projects. Representative Bawa responded by extending his gratitude while expressing hope for future collaborations and mutual support between the two.
Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation is one of the largest foundations, with branches across 68 countries. It seeks to increase its support for India, Nepal and Africa in its future initiatives and is one of the more influential foundations in Taiwan.
