Dharamshala: From 1 – 3 June, students from Tibetan Children’s Village Schools Suja, Chauntra and the Summer Immersion Program’s students visited The Tibet Museum, Dharamshala. The students, accompanied by school staff, were given a tour of the museum by the Museum Staff. The students from classes IX and X quickly became enamoured by the museum’s beautiful display and impactful storytelling.
The tour started with the students learning about Tibetan territory, dressing, cuisine, language and literary culture. This was followed by them peering at the timeline of Tibetan History and understanding the basis of Tibet’s status as an independent nation. The 108 Questions and Answers about His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, sections on ‘Occupation’ and ‘Resistance’, and the People’s Uprising Song chamber were particularly interesting for the students and saw large crowds. While the following sections on ‘Exile’, ‘Tibet Today’ and ‘The Environment’ further taught them about current geopolitics, the ‘Being Tibetan’ section inspired them by sharing stories of accomplished and successful Tibetans.
The objects and the audio-visual implements of the museum made the entire experience an interactive one and heightened the students’ curiosity. One element of the museum which was met with the most enthusiasm was the museum’s virtual tour and the associated online quiz

Few students, who were successful in getting all their answers correct for the quiz, even went on to receive prizes. The three days ended with renewed fervour for the Tibetan cause and culture and a desire to visit the museum again.
