The performance of Tibetan students in Class XII has made a comparatively remarkable progress this year.
DHARAMSHALA: In 2010, 127 students scored above 75% marks. This year, 321 students scored above 75% marks which is an increase of 150%. Since the Department of Education, CTA announced its new scholarship scheme in 2012, there is an increase from 201 students to 321 students in 2014 which is an increase of more than 37%. In 2013, majority of students who scored above 90% were from Science Stream. But this year, there is a uniformity of toppers in all the streams scoring above 90% marks. It indicates improvement in Commerce and Arts Streams as well.
This year’s Gaden Phodrang Award recipients from Science Stream are: Sonam Sangmo (93.2%), Chemi Dorjee (90.8%), Tenzin Dadon (90.6%)- all from TCV from Selakui. Recipients from Commerce Stream are: Tsering Dolma (93.2%), Lhamo Choedon (93%), Tamdin Dolma (91.8%)- all from TCV Bylakuppe. And, recipients from Arts Stream are: Kalsang Dolma (93%) & Lharong (90.6%), both from THF Mussoorie and Tenzin Tseyang (90.4%) from CST Bylakuppe.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared class XII board examination results on May 29, 2014. Two schools namely, TCV Selakui and CST Bylakuppe have achieved 100% result this year.
Out of the 1535 Tibetan students who appeared in the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) conducted by CBSE, 1331 have passed, 40 students failed and 162 students were placed under compartment category (failed in one subject). The overall pass percentage of Tibetan schools is 86.71.
Girls of Tibetan schools have outshined boys in this year’s examination as well. Out of 704 boys who appeared in the examination, 594 (84.38%) have passed whereas 665 girls (90.11%) out of 738 have cleared the examination.
