Moscow: Following the Kashag’s recommendation conveyed through the Department of Information and International Relations of CTA to the Offices of Tibet across the globe to voluntarily donate one day’s pay or more towards the fight against Covid-19 in the respective host countries, the Moscow-based Office of Tibet under the leadership of Honorary Representative Telo Tulku Rinpoche and staff immediately reached out to the small Tibetan Communities living in Mongolia and Russia.
In Russia, the Tibetan community of approximately 40 people are spread across Moscow, Buryat, Tuva, Kalmykia and Aginsky regions. Despite their relative low income, they collected an amount of 201211.11 Russian rubles (Approx. US $2712) for contribution to “Rusfond” which is a charitable organization that helps doctors, medical services, citizens with disabilities as well as corona virus-infected individuals of the Russian Federation.
Amid the strict observance of lockdown across Russia, the Office of Tibet staff have made the donations online and communicated with members of “Rusfond”, who expressed their appreciation for the solidarity extended towards the fight against the Covid-19 in the Russian Federation.
Likewise, the small Tibetan community of 28 in Mongolia collected a total of 26,093,333 Mongolian Tugrigs (Approx.US $ 9361) and donated the funds to the “National Emergency Management Agency” (NEMA) of the Mongolian Government”. Tuksey Rinpoche, Gen Kunga, and Chodon paid a visit to the NEMA headquarters in the Parliament building to hand-deliver the official letter from the Office of Tibet in Moscow, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s special message to the public in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic in English and Mongolian. The Director of NEMA in turn, asked the Tibetan delegates to convey a deep appreciation and admiration to His Holiness and sincerely thanked the local Tibetan community for their initiative.
The local media was present to cover the news and His Holiness’ special message for the Covid-19 pandemic was well-publicized in various media outlets.
