Dharamshala: Tibetan Career Centre (TCC), a unit of Youth Empowerment Support, DoH, organized a workshop on “Career Awareness” at Bir and Ladakh Sonamling Tibetan Settlement in the month of April.
Ms Jigme Lhamo, counsellor cum placement officer of Tibetan Career Centre (TCC) covered 27 people at Bir Tibetan settlement on 4th April 2019.
Head Consultant Ms. Tenzin Choezin and Counsellor cum placement officer Ms. Jigme Lhamo conducted the same program at Ladakh Sonamling Tibetan settlement from 10 th -15 th April, 2019 covering 354 people of different age group from 12 different camps. They also organised the career awareness program at Tibetan Children Village (TCV), Ladakh covering 88 school students. The target group for the program has been the Tibetan youth, parents and school students of Tibetan settlements.
The primary objectives of the program are as following:
a) To create awareness about the importance of parental support toward their children’s career and career guidance for Tibetan youth and school students.
b) To create awareness about the opportunities for skills training in the Tibetan community and the varied scopes of vocational training in the job market.
c) To conduct a workshop on employability skills like resume building, interview skills, communication and body language.
The trainers conducted individual counselling, parental counselling and group counselling on topics like how to build a career in four simple steps, i.e. a) Knowing yourself b) Exploring possibilities c) Making a choice and d) Making it happen. This allowed the participants to share their opinion and understanding of Career and Parental support toward Child’s interest.
The training was led with interactive sessions, video activities, group presentations and an informative session on the availability of various youth-related program run by CTA.
A group from Agling Camp said, “We are getting this kind of workshop for the first time and we found it very effective and useful. We came to know about many things which we were unaware of. Besides, we will surely share this information with others as well. What we need is a productive community, self sufficient community. So we will surely use its benefits for the betterment of our community and oneself as well”
Another group from Camp 1& 2 said, “This workshop is really good for our youth, and it also helps the parents understand on how to look after their Child’s career interest.”
