Moscow: Participants of the dialogue between Russian scientists and Buddhist scholars have gathered at the roundtable discussions on the topic of “The Problem of Consciousness and Modern Science “at the Moscow State University’s philosophy department on 22 November 2018.
During the roundtable discussions, Russian scientists summed up the “Dialogue between Russian Scientists and Buddhist Scholars: II Dialogue on Understanding the World” which took place in Dharamshala earlier this year in May. At the dialogue, Russian Scientists and Buddhists scholars have discussed philosophical, psychological, neurological, genetic and many other aspects of the research on consciousness and the importance of experience in phenomenology and the meditative experience for this research. The conference took place in a form of a dialogue between Russian scientists and philosophers on one side and His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Buddhist scholars on the other.
Moderator of the roundtable discussions was Professor Konstantin Anokhin, head of the Center for Cognitive Research and Neuroscience at the Moscow State University who was also the moderator during the dialogue in Dharamshala. Reports and presentations were presented by Professor Medvedev, director of the Institute of Brain at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), academician of RAS Dr Yankovski , correspondent member of the RAS Professor Pavel Balaban, Professor Kaplan head of Laboratory of the Biological Faculty of Moscow State University, Head of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Genomics, Institute of General Genetics at RAS Professor Rogaev, Professor Dubrovski of the Philosophy department of Moscow State University, Professor Lysenko head of Oriental Philosophy Sector, Institute of Philosophy at RAS, Andrey Terentyev chief editor of the “Nartang” publishing and Associate Professor in the Department of Foreign Philosophy at the Philosophy department of Moscow State University Egor Falev.
Organisers of the event were Tibet Cultural and Information Centre (Office of Tibet, Moscow) and Save Tibet Foundation in Russia with the active support of the Centre of Consciousness Studies at Moscow State University and Institute of Philosophy at RAS and others.
There was a book presentation of the publication of the revised edition and updated Russian translation of the book by His Holiness the Dalai Lama “Universe in a Single Atom” with the foreword by Prof. Dubrovski.
The event has concluded with a few remarks and comments from younger colleagues and questions from the audience.
