Moscow: Honorary representative Telo Tulku Rinpoche gave a lecture on “Buddhism and secular ethics” at the Moscow State University’s Philosophy department on 20 November 2018.
Among the attendees were students of the Philosophy department of Moscow State University, members of the faculty and professors as well as others interested in attending the lecture.
Honorary representative was introduced by Professor Egor Falev of the Moscow State University’s Philosophy department. He spoke about the importance of promotion of basic human values such as love and compassion in our society today. He introduced four major commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama which are promotion of human values and sense of oneness, interreligious harmony, preservation of Tibetan culture and environment and the revival of ancient Indian philosophy.
Telo Tulku Rinpoche explained the importance of secular ethics and its definition. Secularism in the ancient Indian thought is no discrimination based on religious beliefs. That secular ethics means that we as human beings have the moral responsibility to promote good human values, while we are promoting these values they are completely non-discriminative to any religion or whether a person is a believer or not said honorary representative.
After that Honorary representative ended his lecture with a prayer of four immeasurable and went on to a Q&A session.
