DHARAMSHALA: The eight–day student leadership workshop organised by the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, concluded on 3 January 2018. The chief guest at the concluding function was Education Secretary Karma Singe. The function was held at Lower Tibetan Children’s Village school.
In his address, Secretary Karma Singe spoke about the significance of school life and how one can build the habits and personality that will help oneself later in professional life during school time. He divided life into four phases: childhood (school life), adolescent (college life), adulthood (professional life) and old age (retirement).
Of the four, he described school life as the most significant, which can positively affect your entire life. He said that it is at this time in life that one should build your foundational knowledge; develop hygienic habits, learn the practice of morality, and good manners. He also advised the students to analyse what they have learned during the workshop and implement it in real life.
Mr Tenzin Dorje, head of education department’s modern and traditional academic section, presented a brief overview of the eight-day workshop.
Over 63 tenth-graders from more than 25 Tibetan schools have taken part in the workshop to hone their leadership skills. During the workshop, sessions were held on topics such as leadership skills, evolution of Tibetan democracy, Middle Way Approach, preservation of Tibetan language and environment, Tibetan basic education policy, standardised Tibetan terms, gender equality, cyber security, adolescent health, secular ethics, career counseling, etc.
The workshop was funded by USAID.
