
Taipei: With the approval of the Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural Centre of Taiwan, in collaboration with the Office of the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Taiwan, extended an invitation to 18 members of the Tibetan Opera Troupe from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), led by their director and teachers. The delegation arrived in Taiwan to take part in the 2025 Year of Compassion celebration in honour of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan Culture Festival, scheduled to be held across various parts of Taiwan from 30 September to 15 October.
On 27 September, the members of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport. They were warmly received by the staff of the Taiwan Cultural Centre, the Secretary and Accountant of the Office of the Representative, as well as the President and Secretary of the Tibetan Association in Taiwan. The troupe later checked into their hotel.
On 30 September at 2:00 p.m., the Taiwan Cultural Centre convened a press conference to introduce the 2025 Tibetan Culture Festival and outline the series of programs dedicated to celebrating the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, observed as the Year of Compassion.
On the evening of 30 September at 7:30 p.m., the inaugural performance of the Year of Compassion and the 2025 Tibetan Culture Festival was held at the National Theatre in Taipei, the capital of Taiwan. The event drew an audience of over 1,000, including the Representative of the Office of Tibet in Taiwan and staff, members of the Mongolian and Tibetan Cultural Centre of Taiwan, as well as local Taiwanese and Tibetans residing in Taiwan.
The 2025 Tibetan Culture Festival and Year of Compassion celebration featured two performances in Taipei on 30 September and 1 October, followed by one in Hualien on 4 October, one in Taichung on 6 October, and another in Taipei on 7 October. On 8 October, a special performance will be held at a monastery in Taiwan.
On 10 October, the Tibetan Opera Artists, together with the Taiwanese community, will jointly celebrate the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama—commemorated as the Year of Compassion—with a musical gathering and related events in the following days. Furthermore, on 12 October, a grand closing ceremony of the Culture Festival will be held in Taichung, the largest city in central Taiwan.
Following the conclusion of the festival, the troupe will visit Nantou and Sun Moon Lake before returning to Dharamshala on 15 October.
