Dharamshala: The Mexican parliamentary delegation headed by MP Salvador Caro Cabrera visited the CTA’s Department of Information and International Relations this morning to meet Kalon Norzin Dolma and the senior officials of the department to discuss priorities and concerns of CTA including future initiatives between the two.

During their meet, Kalon briefed them about the predicament of Tibetans in Tibet facing China’s atrocities and the perpetual repression committed by China to annihilate the Tibetan cultural and national identity. She highlighted the concerns and appeals of 157 Tibetans who have self-immolated in protest against Beijing’s occupation of Tibet while demanding for more political freedom inside Tibet.

“All of these are happening because China wants to earn legitimacy for its oppression of Tibet”, asserted Kalon and reiterated the firm commitment of the CTA to resolving the Sino-Tibet conflict by negotiating with the Beijing authority. The negotiation sought by the CTA is fundamentally based on the Middle Way Policy that seeks genuine and meaningful autonomy in Tibet within the framework of the PRC’s constitution.

“We want China to be a responsible global stakeholder”, added Kalon Norzin Dolma. In addition, she expressed the gratitude owed by CTA and its leadership for the constant effort and support demonstrated by the government of Mexico significantly through the formation of the parliamentary friendship group despite Beijing’s pressure and criticisms. She reminded the delegation of the special bond shared between the Tibetans and Latin Americans established by His Holiness the Dalai Lama through his many visits to Latin America. Moreover, when the Tibetan delegation appealed for the UN’s help and intervention to counter China, El Salvador was one of the first countries to support the Tibet resolution in the UN.

“Thank you for standing up for truth, justice and freedom as they form an integral part of the Tibetan struggle movement”, said Kalon to the delegation. She also thanked and commended Representative Jigme Tsering for keeping the issue of Tibet alive in Latin America and for being an instrumental force in bringing such a large delegation to Dharamshala.

On a similar note, Kalon reiterated the gratitude owed to the government and people of India for providing space and opportunity for Tibetans to revive, nurture and maintain their national identity. She also expressed equal gratitude to the US government for its constant support in the development of the Tibetan community in exile and for its legislative support in pushing for the resolution of the Sino-Tibet conflict.

The Mexican parliamentary delegation accompanied by Representative Jigme Tsering consisted of MP Salvador Caro Cabrera, MP Lidia Garcia Anaya, MP Dulce Maria Corina, MP Ma Teresa Rosaura Ochoa Mejia, MP Julieta Mejia Ibanez, MP Lidia Perez Barcenas, MP Jose Miguel De La Cruz Lima, MP Raul Jose Mejia Gonzalez, MP Karla Sofia Torres Pesquera and MP Renata Kroeff.

Apart from Kalon Norzin Dolma, the meeting with the delegation was attended by DIIR Secretary Karma Choeying, Additional Secretary Tenzin Lekshay and Additional Secretary Namgyal Tsewang.
