
Hunsur: The twelfth six-month intensive course on Tibetan Language and Buddhist Studies organised by the Department of Religion and Culture (CTA), in collaboration with Gyudmey Snowland School, commenced on 1 July 2025 in Hunsur. A total of 13 Tibetan college students and 9 other students are participating in this programme.
The inaugural ceremony of the six-month intensive course was graced by the presence of Gyumad Tantric Monastery’s chant master Jetsun Thubten Rabgay, along with Tibetan Parliamentarian Migyur Dorjee, Rabgayling Tibetan Settlement Officer Norbu Tsering, Principal Sonam Ngodup of the Gyudmey Snowland School, and representatives of the Department of Religion and Culture.
The six-month course, from July to December, will focus on basic Tibetan grammar, Tibetan religious history, Buddhist dialectics and Buddhist philosophies. The participants will also be given a course-completion certificate after clearing a test at the end of the programme.
The Snowland school for Tibetan studies was formally inaugurated on 7 December 2011. It was established after His His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s recommendation during his visit to Gyudmed monastery in 2007, to begin a school specially designed to meet the needs of students wishing to study Buddhism and Tibetan culture in India.
