
Mainpat: Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) concluded a successful five-day cultural tour to the Mainpat Phendeling Tibetan Settlement, drawing strong public participation and widespread appreciation.
Led by the Director of TIPA, a 42 member troupe including the Artistic Director, teachers, staff, and performers presented a series of traditional Tibetan songs, dances, opera and theatrical productions from 28 March to 1 April 2026. The performances highlighted themes of exile and compassion, reflecting the resilience and cultural identity of the Tibetan community.
The opening event on 29 March at the settlement’s community hall was attended by key dignitaries, including the President of the Local Tibetan Assembly, the President of Rangdhen Tsokchung, and the Settlement Officer representing the Central Tibetan Administration. In his address, the TIPA Director introduced the institute and outlined the objectives of the tour. Performances received an emotional response from the audience.
On 30 March, more than 500 residents gathered for a morning performance at the community ground, where the troupe staged the traditional opera Padma Woebar. Another cultural evening on 31 March featured a variety of performances, drawing an enthusiastic crowd and prominent community leaders.
Organised in connection with the 29th Shoton Festival in Odisha, the tour also marked TIPA’s first visit to Mainpat Phendeling in over 30 years. Local authorities and community leaders played a key role in supporting the programme, which helped strengthen cultural pride and reaffirm TIPA’s role in preserving Tibetan heritage.
