The celebration marking the 89th birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama at Sambhota Tibetan School, Shimla, 6 July 2024.
Shimla: The Tibetans in Shimla celebrated the 89th birthday of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama at Sambhota Tibetan School, Shimla. Shri Onkar Chand Sharma, the Additional Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, was invited as the chief guest, and Shri Anupam Kashyap, the Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, as a special guest.
Other dignitaries, including Shrimati Jyoti Rana, the ADM of Shimla, councillors of concerned wards, V.S. Negi, the President and members of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Association, local Tibetan dignitaries, and local media reporters, attended the occasion.
The program started at 8:00 am, which included prayers, readings of Kashag and TPiE statements, a cake-cutting ceremony, a welcome speech by Tsewang Phuntsok, CRO Shimla, various cultural performances, and a speech by the chief guest. The chief guest reiterated the legacy of His Holiness and wished for a speedy recovery from His Holiness’s recent knee treatment. He also emphasised the historical and religious connection between India and Tibet.
Pema Gyaltsen, the Principal of S.T.S Shimla, delivered a vote of thanks speech, marking the end of the program.
