Tokyo: Tibetans in Japan and South Korea and Japanese supporters celebrated the 63rd anniversary of Tibetan democracy day today at the Tibet House office. While Tibetans in Japan and the Japanese supporters attended in person, Tibetans in South Korea attended online.
Representative Dr. Arya Tsewang Gyalpo and Tenzin Sherab of the Tibetan Community Japan presented scarves to the portrait of H.H. the Dalai Lama followed by the singing of the Tibetan national anthem and democracy song “dugchu yangdhen” by the gatherings.
Representative Dr. Arya read Kashag`s statement and talked briefly about the importance of democracy and how H.H. the Dalai Lama has very carefully nurtured and presented it to the Tibetan community. He said, “If we are to have a strong and competent community to further our struggle for freedom and justice in our homeland, we must learn to practice the democratic form of government without bias and prejudice.”
Tibetan community Japan`s chairman Tenzin Sherab, and representatives from South Korean Geshe Tenzin Namkha and Geshe Tenzin Sangpo talked about how democracy evolved and how Tibetans all around the world should practice it properly as one`s sacred duty to the Tibetan nation.
Alumni and Tibetan students studying at the Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT) informed the Tibet House of the formation of a CIT association to further the Tibetan cause and contribute to the community. As a first step toward this direction, they pledged to sponsor two students` education in India and handed over the initial fund to the Tibet House. Representative Dr. Arya thanked them for their contribution and appreciated their sense of duty toward the community.
Japanese supporters expressed their pleasure and appreciation for being able to attend democracy day and learn how democracy evolved in the Tibetan community.
