Dehradun: The convocation ceremony of the second batch of Sakya College for Nuns and the first batch of Sapan’s College of Five Sciences was held on 3 May 2024 in the gracious presence of the 43rd Sakya Trizin Gyana Vajra Rinpoche.
It was also attended by Gyalyum Chenmo of the Sakya family, Asangavajra Rinpoche, Tibetan parliamentarian Khenpo Kada Ngedup Sonam, Khenpo Gyatso, Additional Secretary Kunga Gyaltsen from the Department of Religion and Culture (CTA), and Director of the Tibetan Nuns Project, Nangsa Choedon.
As part of the customary rituals, the gathering made an offering of mandala and prayers to the 43rd Sakya Trizin Rinpoche, followed by a welcome address from the abbot of the Sakya nunnery, Yeshe Tsering, who also briefed the assemblage about the current state of the nunnery.
Likewise, other distinguished guests addressed the event, and in his talk, the Representative of the Department of Religion and Culture emphasised the importance of teaching science in monasteries.
Subsequently, the 43rd Sakya Trizin Gyana Vajra Rinpoche presented certificates to the recipients and launched publications before delivering the keynote address. Rinpoche underscored the incorporation of hearing, contemplation, and meditation in studying Buddhist scriptures and highlighted practising Buddhist principles to fulfil the noble wishes of their root teachers.
Before wrapping up the ceremony, Abbot Yeshe Tsering conveyed a vote of thanks.
