Dehradun: As part of the year-long Ghoton celebration programme, the Local Ghoton Organising Committee of Dehradun, in collaboration with the Mall of Dehradun, hosted a three-day event from 11 to 13 July 2025 at the said mall. The Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute (Rajpur branch), Rajpur Tibetan Women’s Centre, Regional Tibetan Women’s Association, Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, and private individuals set up free stalls offering traditional Tibetan food and goods. Additionally, short films highlighting the life and achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama were screened on LED displays, accompanied by a photo exhibition.
On 12 and 13 July, from 4:30 PM onwards, Tibetan cultural songs and dances were performed. The closing day’s programme was graced by the state’s Culture and Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, his wife, and family members, along with Sakya Dagmo Kalden, Tibetan Settlement Officer Dr. Tsewang Phuntsok, and numerous local Tibetans and residents. The event was widely praised for its successful promotion of Tibetan culture and heritage. On the same occasion, Dr. Tsewang Phuntsok submitted a written appeal to Minister Satpal Maharaj, outlining the challenges faced by Tibetan settlement areas in Dehradun and requesting prompt intervention.
Earlier, on 10 July—coinciding with the 15th day of the 5th Tibetan month, observed as Dzam Ling Chi Sang (Universal Prayer Day)—a traditional juniper incense offering (Sangsol) and prayer flag hoisting ceremony (Lungta) was held at Lasol Hill in Mussoorie’s Happy Valley. Organised by the Local Ghoton Organising Committee, the ceremony was attended by eight monks from the Drikung Kagyu Monastery, staff of the Tibetan Settlement Office, and administrators and students from the Tibetan Homes School, Mussoorie.
