London: Hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Tibet, Tibetan Losar was celebrated, albeit a few days earlier, on Wednesday, 7 February 2024, with much fanfare amongst nearly 80 guests consisting of parliamentarians, Tibetans and Tibet supporters, including Chinese and Uyghur friends. Good friends of Tibet, Lord Alton, MP Jim Shannon, MP Vera Hobhouse and Ben Rogers as well as representatives of various Tibet-organisations were present. This Tibetan Losar celebration event in the UK Parliament was co-hosted jointly by the Tibetan Community in Britain, Free Tibet and the Tibet Society under the auspices of APPG Tibet and the Office of Tibet.
MP Tim Loughton, Chair of the APPG Tibet, welcomed the guests and lit the altar lamp. Tibetan Community showcased four cultural performances attributing performing arts from the three provinces of Kham, Amdo and U-Tsang. Guest speaker, Dame Joanna Lumley, the famed British actress and rights campaigner spoke of her family’s connection to Tibet and reminisced about her meetings with His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala and in London. Chairman of the Tibetan Community in Britain, Tenzin Kunga, who is also the Advocacy Officer of Free Tibet and Tibet Society, gave the vote of thanks.
Secretary Lochoe Samten and Under Secretary Tenzin Zeydhan of the Office of Tibet attended the event, and Secretary Lochoe Samten on behalf of Representative Sonam Frasi, who is away, wished everyone early Losar greetings.
