
Free Tibet – A Voice from Assam brings Tibetan freedom movement to Bhairabkunda, Assam
30th Dec. 2021, New Delhi: Free Tibet – A Voice from Assam, a Tibet Support Group based in Assam organized a people’s movement in support of Tibet on 26th December 2021 at Bhairabkunda, Assam. With slogans of “We oppose the forceful occupation of our neighbour country, Tibet, by Communist China” and “We protest the ecological catastrophe of the Brahmaputra civilization by communist China”, the youth and people of Bhairabkunda, a place of historical and religious significance in Udalguri, Assam participated with the people’s movement led by Free Tibet – a voice from Assam in support to the peaceful Tibetan freedom movement to give freedom and justice to Tibet.
During the campaign, local youth belonging to the Bodo community took part in an interactive session with Shri Soumyadeep Datta, Regional Convener (Assam & Meghalaya), Core Group for Tibetan Cause – India creating awareness amongst the youth and local people regarding the Tibetan freedom movement and the significance of their participation in it.
With such campaigns, Free Tibet – A Voice from Assam is bringing the cause of the Tibetan freedom movement closer to the villagers, ethnic communities and grassroots of India, making it a people’s movement in Assam.
Bhairabkunda is located in a trijunction where Assam shares its border with Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. The river Jampani from Bhutan and Bhairabi River merge here to form Dhansiri River, a major tributary of Brahmaputra River. Apart from being a place of tourist interest, Bhairabkunda is an important place of religious significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. This place attracts people from all over Assam with its beautiful natural environment.
