Dharamshala: The Digital team from the Department of Religion and Culture, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), has completed a six-day networking and exposure trip to Boston, New York, and Washington, D.C. This visit was part of the Tibetan Library project, funded by USAID under the ‘Strengthening Cultural Resilience in Tibetan Communities program’. The trip aimed to enhance collaboration and gather insights to preserve Tibetan cultural resources.
During the trip, they met with Dr Jann, the director of the Buddhist Digital Resource Center and his team to discuss the transfer of Buddhist Digital Resources and to receive hands-on training in collection and digital resource preservation. The team also had a successful meeting with Dr Shao, chief of the Asian division, and Susan, Tibetan and Mongolian Area Specialist from the Library of Congress, on Tibetan resource collection and an ongoing digital project implemented by the Religion and Culture department of CTA. Both parties presented the ongoing project and plan for preserving the Tibetan Resources collection and exchanged ideas and knowledge on the subject. They also visited Columbia University and presented the Tibetan Digital Library project to the students and researchers at the University Seminar hall.
In addition to the meetings and training, they toured major libraries, such as the Himalayan Library, Columbia and Harvard University Libraries, the Public Library of the US, the Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Library, the Library of Congress, and the VoA Tibetan division, to develop networks and gain valuable insights.
