Geneva: On the occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birthday, the Tibetan community in the Czech Republic, in collaboration with Czechs support group for Tibet, Potala, gathered to celebrate and honour the day.
The event featured special guests, including Czech filmmaker David Sís, whose father was invited by the PRC government in the early 1950s to document the Chinese Communist Party’s military road construction in Tibet. Around that time, he captured some of the first photographs of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in lay attire, taken during a meeting in Chamdo in 1954.
Also in attendance was Alexandr Neuman, former secretary to Czech President Václav Havel, who played a key role in hosting His Holiness during his first official visit to the Czech Republic. Renowned Czech photographer Stanislav Doležal, known for his documentation of Tibet-related events, also participated in the celebration.
Meanwhile, a small group of Tibetans in Hungary also gathered in observance of His Holiness’ birthday, marking the occasion with reverence and gratitude.
