Canberra: Representative Karma Singey of the Tibet Information Office, accompanied by Dawa Sangmo, Chinese Liaison Officer of the Tibet Information Office, and renowned former Tibetan political prisoner and human rights advocate Golog Jigme, met with Daniela Gavshon, Australia Director of Human Rights Watch, and HRW researcher Yalkun Uluyol on 7 May 2026 in Sydney to brief them on the ongoing human rights situation in Tibet and to express deep concern over the China’s recently adopted the “Ethnic Unity and Progress Law” and its far-reaching implications for the human rights of Tibetans and other minorities.
During the meeting, Representative Karma Singey also welcomed the Human Rights Watch report, “Start with the Youngest Children,” which provides evidence-based documentation of China’s use of preschools to “integrate” Tibetans, threatening the survival of the Tibetan language and culture. Later in the afternoon, the delegation joined a seminar titled The Vicious Cycle: China’s Insecurity, Repression and Propaganda in Xinjiang, organised by the Asia Pacific Research Group at the University of Technology Sydney.
