Tokyo:Tibet House Japan organised a workshop, a study session on the Tibet issue, for young Tibetan students studying and working in Tokyo. The workshop aims to remind and educate young Tibetans on the Tibet issue and update them on the activities of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and the situation in Tibet.
Representative Dr. Tsewang Gyalpo Arya welcomed the participants and explained to them the reason why Tibetans are in exile and how Tibetans in Tibet are still suffering under the repressive communist regime. He reminded them of their duty to work to promote the Tibet issue and garner Japanese people’s support. “You are all well educated in your technical fields and Japanese language, the CTA has a great hope that you all will play a substantial role in our struggle for freedom and justice in our homeland,” he said.
He advised the participants to take an interest in reading books on Tibetan history and culture and keep themselves abreast of information on Tibet from the Tibet House and the CTA websites. He further informed the gathering of the Chinese colonial boarding schools, Chinese religious order no.19, and the recent Chinese patriotic education law.
Tashi Yangzom, Secretary of the Office, spoke on her experience as a CTA staff and the challenges thereof. Tselha, Accountant of the Tibet House, spoke on his life in Tibet, and the expectations of the Tibetans in Tibet, and his education and experience as a staff of CTA. The participants greatly appreciated the experiences shared by the two staff.
Alumni of the Chiba Institute of Technology (CIT) working in various fields introduced themselves and shared information on what they are currently doing. Tenzin Kunga, the Outgoing President of the CIT Alumni Association, briefly updated the activities of the association and introduced the new President Yangchen Palmo, and the two Assistants, Tenzin Choedup and Tenzing Choedon. Representative Arya presented Khatas to both the outgoing committee members and the association’s new committee members.
Students studying at the CIT introduced themselves. Dorjee Wangchuk and Tenzin Woesel, who are studying at Reitaku University, shared their experiences as students of Japanese language and as CTA staff.
An interactive session involving questions and answers was held where the participants discussed and raised questions on the issues related to furthering Tibetan cause and activities in Japan.
