Uttar Pradesh: The second day of the Tibet Awareness Program was held at Pavanagar Mahaveer Inter College in Fazilnagar, Uttar Pradesh, as part of the ongoing initiative in Kushinagar. This event, which took place in the college auditorium on October 17, 2023, was a collaborative effort between the India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO) and the Bharat Tibbat Samvad Manch (BTSM).
Chief Guest College Principal Dr. Akshayabar Panday, Shri Surendra Kumar Ji, National Co-Convener of the Core Group for Tibetan Cause-India (CGTC-I), Ven. Tenkyong, Charge of Namgyal Tibetan Monastery, Kushinagar, Dr Shub Lal Ji from BTSM, faculty, students, Thupten Rinzin, ITCO Coordinator, Tenzin Jorden, ITCO Deputy Coordinator, and various local figures were part of the event.
Shri Surendra Kumar Ji discussed ancient India-Tibet relations, China’s illegal occupation of Tibet, and its implications for India’s border security. He emphasized India’s historical connection with Tibet and the need to support the Tibetan freedom movement.
Thupten Rinzin explained the purpose of the Tibet awareness program, aiming to educate young Indians about the historical ties between India and Tibet, the current situation in Tibet, and the importance of supporting Tibetan freedom.
He presented a PowerPoint on various themes, including cultural and spiritual kinship between India and Tibet, the unlawful occupation of Tibet, and the role of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA).
Dr. Akshayabar Panday highlighted the spiritual connection between India and Tibet, mentioning the exchange of Buddhist masters between Nalanda and Tibet that contributed to the spread of Buddhism in Tibet.
He also discussed Tibet’s significance and China’s insecurity regarding it. Additionally, he mentioned the Doklam and Galwan border issues resulting from China’s occupation of Tibet and emphasized the role of the CTA in fulfilling the aspirations of the Tibetan people.
Over 300 students and some media representatives were in attendance. Tenzin Jorden expressed gratitude at the conclusion.
In addition to the program, the Tibet Museum from Dharamsala were invited and showcased a photo exhibition titled “India-Tibet Relations” on campus, attracting students and faculty.
India Tibet Coordination Office distributed Tibet-related books and brochures during the event and also donated to the college library.
