The Tibet Museum Exhibits Tibetan Life in Exile at Tawang Monastery [Tuesday, 24 April 2011, 10:30 a.m.]

DHARAMSHALA: The Tibet Museum of Department of Information and
International Relations (DIIR) concluded its traveling photo exhibition
in Arunachal Pradesh after holding two days photo exhibition at Tawang
Gaden Namgyal Lhatse Monastery from 3 to 4 April 2011. The
unique photo exhibition titled “Journey into Exile” and “Long Look
Homeward” was held for the first time in Tawang City, displayed many
rare and priceless photographs depicting the life of Tibetan people in
exile for the last 50 years and portrayed past and present situations
inside Tibet. It also unfolded extraordinary journey of His Holiness
the 14th Dalai Lama into exile and outlined brief introduction about
Tibetan settlements, schools, monasteries and various institutions
setup by Central Tibetan Administration (CTA). In the evening of 4
April 2011, a documentary movie “What Remain of Us” was screened at the
hall of Tawang Monastery. Irrespective of bad weather in
the city, around 1500 local populace thronged to visit the rare
collection of photographs and watched the documentary movie in the
evening. The visitors were greatly moved and touched after going
through photographs which portrayed trials and tribulations faced by
the Tibetans for the last 50 years. The photo exhibition in
Tawang Monastery was made possible after receiving invitation and
support from Tawang Monastery and Mr. Tsewang Dhondup, Member of
Legislative Assembly (MLA), Tawang Constituency, Arunachal Pradesh. The
Tibet Museum has earlier held photo exhibitions at Tezu Tibetan
Settlement, Miao Tibetan Settlement, Tenzin Gang Tibetan Settlement,
and Bomdila from 18 March 2011 onwards. Tibet Museum received high
appreciations and acclaims for this travelling photo exhibition to the
Tibetan settlements in different states in India. More pictures:
