
Dharamshala: Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, attended a Long Life Prayer ceremony offered to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama by Drepung Monastery at Drepung Lachi Monastery in Mundgod, Karnataka, India, on 24 December 2025. The ceremony also marked the enthronement of His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the honorary Drepung Tripa.
The ceremony was graced by several eminent figures, including the Ganden Tripa, Kyabje Menri Trizin, Tsungmey Sharpa Choejey, Drepung Khenpo Tripa Togden Rinpoche, Chief Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, and Kalon Gyari Dolma. Also in attendance were other Rinpoches, former abbots and teachers from Drepung Gomang and Loseling monasteries, Gelug Parliamentarians Geshe Lharampa Atuk Tseten and Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende, Parliamentarian Choedak Gyatso, South Zone Chief Representative Jigme Tsultrim, the Mundgod Settlement Officer, and others.
During the ceremony, the Abbot of Drepung, Kyabje Togden Rinpoche, together with the abbots of the two monasteries, presented a statue of Je Tsongkhapa as a symbol of the monastery’s gratitude and reverence for His Holiness. Additionally, Taktsang Rato Monastery offered a Dharma Wheel to commemorate His Holiness’ 90 years of altruistic service to humanity.
