Geneva: The 6th Geneva Forum successfully concluded on 10 February 2026, with Sikyong Penpa Tsering calling for continued support from the international community to find a lasting resolution to the Sino-Tibet conflict.
In his concluding remarks, Sikyong Penpa Tsering highlighted a strategic shift in approach toward finding an enduring resolution to the Sino-Tibet conflict. He said, “After we took over, we made a strategic shift in our approach in relation to the Middle Way Approach. To bring the international community to our side, we have emphasised that historically Tibet was never a part of China. We are not asking you to lie; it is a historical truth.”
“If there is going to be a resolution to the Sino-Tibet conflict, we have tried to engage with China. But if you look at all the policies in China, they are downgrading the status of Tibet,” Sikyong added.
Underscoring the importance of reaching out to the international community, Sikyong said, “Until we find a resolution, we need to continue engaging with the international community. It is not easy to convince the international community, as everyone looks after their own interests. Nevertheless, we have been quite successful. But we still need support.”
The two-day conference was convened by the Department of Information and International Relations and the Office of Tibet in Geneva, Switzerland.
On the second day of the conference, three panel discussions were organised, including a special panel on the theme of reincarnation in the Tibetan tradition.
Before the closing panel, during a deliberative session, panellists reflected on advancing international accountability through the multilateral system.
In the closing panel, five dignitaries took part as panellists, including three invited guests—Cédric Jeanneret, Grand Conseil Genève; Greg G.D. Lee, Ambassador and Director-General, Taiwan; and Swiss MP Delphine Klopfenstein Broggini.
Secretary Karma Choeying of the Department of Information and International Relations delivered the concluding remarks. He said: “The discussions over the two-day conference were fruitful. I thank all the speakers and delegates for participating.”
Greg G.D. Lee, Ambassador and Director-General of Taiwan, in his address stressed, “Over the course of two days, we have heard some powerful testimonies. Personally, I feel a strong sense of solidarity with you all.”
Representative Thinley Chukki of the Office of Tibet, Geneva, delivered the vote of thanks at the concluding session of the conference.
A farewell dinner was later hosted for all the delegates participating in the two-day conference.
