Berlin, Germany: In a pivotal meeting with MP Michael Brand, Chair of the German Parliamentary Group for Tibet; Carsten Müller and Susanne Hierl, Members of the German Bundestag; Kai Müller of the International Campaign for Tibet (ICT) Germany; Manuela Mangold of the Schwarz-Schilling Foundation; and members of Tibet Initiative Deutschland on 17 October 2025, Sikyong Penpa Tsering presented a comprehensive overview of the prevailing situation of Tibetans both inside Tibet and in exile. He underscored the concerted efforts of the Tibetan community to preserve Tibet’s unique cultural, religious, and linguistic heritage, highlighting, in particular, the establishment of weekend Tibetan classes across almost all Tibetan communities worldwide. These initiatives not only enable the younger generation to learn the Tibetan language but also provide training in traditional music, dance, and song, thereby ensuring the continuity and vitality of Tibet’s cultural identity.
Sikyong further reflected on the recent announcement by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama concerning the continuation of the Dalai Lama lineage, emphasising its profound spiritual and cultural significance for the Tibetan people.
Representative Thinlay Chukki of the Tibet Bureau, Geneva, also attended the meeting. MP Michael Brand, a long-standing and steadfast advocate of Tibet and the Tibetan people, was joined by two members of the Bundestag who expressed genuine interest and commitment to gaining a deeper understanding of the current plight of Tibetans amid the intensified policies of sinicisation by the PRC. The meeting served as a platform to explore ideas for sustained and enhanced support from the German government and parliamentarians towards the Tibetan cause.
Sikyong concluded his official engagements in Berlin and has since arrived in Mexico City on the evening of 18 October to continue his official tour.
